AI-Roundup: August 2023

My top 3 picks for the latest happenings in AI.

Ideogram's AI Art Invasion: Ideogram turns text into snazzy images like a cool art student with a fancy $16.5 million backpack from several Google Brain alumni. Launched with typography swagger, it's a hit. Type 'studying at 3 AM' and get, if not a gothic masterpiece, it’s a convincing replica. As easy to use as a google search, no wonder it hit over 90,000 users in its first week.

Google's Genesis in Journalism: Google's Genesis is the group project member who does all the work - suggesting headlines, styles, and probably picking up a 6-pack on the way over to the meeting. Not replacing journalists, of course, it provides a cheat sheet for writer's block or other such journalistic ailments. Meanwhile, in India, AI anchors like 'Lisa' and 'Sana' are delivering news in multiple languages, but will they report on their own AI takeover?

AI Art's Copyright Conundrum: In a courtroom drama starring AI art, a U.S. court denied copyright to AI-generated “masterpieces”. The artist here is named DABUS and opens a can of worms in the art world, where AI's role is more debated than pineapple on pizza.
